Sponsored by Marsh Commercials, the Coach Operator of the Year award went to Cymru Coaches. We asked them a few questions about their win and the plans for the future.
1. Why did you enter the Wales Transport Awards?
We entered the Wales Transport Awards this year to be able to give recognition to our staff who have worked tirelessly this year to ensure key workers, and the children of key workers are transported safely to work, or school. We wanted our staff to have the recognition that their hard work didn’t go unnoticed, and that we are so proud of them!
2. What does winning a Wales Transport Award mean to your business?
As a small, local, family business, this award is so important to us. It shows prospective customers that we can be trusted to do the job safely, and gives that sense of security to repeat customers. It is tantamount to efforts of the whole team at Cymru Coaches.
3. How do you strive to make a difference in the Transport Industry in Wales?
We intend to continue making strides in accessibility, and have invested heavily in converting vehicles to become DDA compliant as we believe nobody should be denied the ability to travel based on circumstances beyond their control.
4. What are your goals for the next 12 months?
Our goal for 2021 will be converting the entire fleet of vehicles to become DDA compliant, and to continue supporting the key workers in getting to and from work, whilst protecting the health and wellbeing of our drivers throughout this pandemic.
5. What is the biggest lesson you have learned in the past year as a company?
Resilience. Nobody knew what this pandemic would entail at the start, but we kept the wheels turning, safely, to ensure key workers are able to get to work. It is important to remember that our drivers are front line staff, as they are often forgotten, but this year has brought more awareness to the importance of their roles and responsibilities.
6. What one piece of advice would you give to any aspiring business owner?
Be patient with people. This is a tough time for everyone, and the more we can help each other, the easier the journey will be.
7. What did you think of the virtual awards ceremony?
It was very professionally done, very engaging and exciting to watch. It was a great evening all round!
