The Customer Care award, sponsored by Stills, was won by Day's Rental. We caught up with them after their win to see how they had managed during 2020 and what their plans were for the future.
1. Why did you enter the Wales Transport Awards?
This wasn’t our first time of entry, but we entered the awards in 2020 to gain recognition for the efforts of our teams, who always go the extra mile to deliver our services. As a Welsh family business, we believe it is important to fly the flag and be proud of our achievements, as we compete with large multinational brands.
2. What does winning a Wales Transport Award mean to your business?
It confirms what we do, we do better than others. Winning the award sends the best possible message to our customers that their business will always be in safe hands!
3. How do you strive to make a difference in the Transport Industry in Wales?
From the initial outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020, we have played a continued key role in the support to the Coronavirus response by Welsh Government. Providing additional response vehicles to the NHS, emergency services and public sector, we are extremely proud to be in position to help keep the response moving.
Aside of this, we have always been there for our customers no matter how big or small, often at short notice, to provide transport resources in order to keep their businesses going.
4. What are your goals for the next 12 months?
To continue to grow our business footprint within Wales, but now also across the wider UK. Importantly, we will always continue to work with Welsh suppliers in our community, because we believe our success will in turn help fuel their success.
5. What is the biggest lesson you have learned in the past year as a company?
We do recognise just how tough the year has been for everyone and we have experienced our fair share of pain as part this, but we always believe there will always be opportunities. Winning a small piece of business can always lead to more, but if you don’t go for the crumbs you will never get to the main course! Explore every opportunity that comes your way.
6. What one piece of advice would you give to any aspiring business owner?
Stay out of vehicle rental…just joking! Our advice would be to look after your customers and that way, they will stay loyal to you. Conversely, if you don’t, they will look for someone who does value them.
7. What did you think of the virtual awards ceremony?
It would have been easy to cancel the awards under the current circumstances, but we believe that would have done a great disservice to the transport industry of Wales.
Thanks to the spirit and determination of the organisers, it was possible to run the event, albeit in a virtual format. While we would all have preferred to have been there in person to celebrate, this was the best outcome we could have hoped for. One positive was there was no queue at the taxi rank afterwards!
Fingers crossed we can celebrate together this year.
